When a worker gets inside a new working environment for the first time, independently of his previous experiences, is exposed to different rules and procedures whose unknowledge can undermine his and coworkers’ safety.
“Green hat policy” is based on the principle that a new worker doesn’t know the rules and he shall be supervised for entire duration of short service employee period. In order to underline that he cannot carry out duties or moving around autonomously without an experienced colleague, worker shall wear a green safety helmet.
Once short service employee period is completed, manager and supervisor check and assess worker’s knowledge and attitude concerning safety rules and procedures. In case of positive feedback worker shall replace the green helmet with that one assigned to experienced staff. In case of negative feedback worker is compelled to wear green helmet until a further short service employee period will be completed as well as following assessment satisfied.
And what about you, how many green hats do you have in your company?
